We take time to answer questions, explain recommendations, and support pet owners through routine care, illness, surgery, senior pet needs, and follow-up care.
Dr. Shirley Chen

Dr. Shirley Chen knew from a young age that she wanted to become a veterinarian, combining her love of animals with her interest in science. She attended the Ontario Veterinary College from 2007 to 2011 and worked as a kennel attendant at Chicopee Hills Animal Hospital during her studies. After graduation, she practised at a small animal clinic in Toronto for 4.5 years before moving to Kitchener in 2015 and returning to Chicopee Hills as a veterinarian.

In early 2023, Dr. Chen purchased Chicopee Hills Animal Hospital from Drs. Croft and Cowper. She is grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the Chicopee Hills community through thoughtful, high-quality care. Her professional interests include pet dentistry, preventive medicine, and geriatric care. Senior cats are a favourite, especially as she has two 16-year-old cats of her own.

Outside the hospital, Dr. Chen enjoys time with her husband and two young sons. They love camping, biking, swimming, growing giant dahlias, and tending to an ever-growing collection of fruit trees.

Shari Wiseman

Dr. Shari Wiseman was born and raised in Burlington, Ontario, and chose veterinary medicine because it combines her love of animals with her desire to work closely with people. She enjoys the variety of a busy general practice and has particular interests in preventive care, senior care, and feline internal medicine.

Dr. Wiseman completed her undergraduate degree in Life Sciences at Queen’s University and graduated from the University of Guelph’s Ontario Veterinary College in 2000. Since graduation, she has worked in a variety of small animal practices across southern Ontario and British Columbia.

Outside the hospital, Dr. Wiseman enjoys an active home life with her husband David, their three teenagers, two cats, Tux and Orzo, and Juneau, a Shepherd mix rescued from Northern Manitoba. She enjoys hiking, skiing, camping, canoeing, going to the cottage, playing piano, and reading.

Dr. Kayla Tasky is thrilled to be part of the team at Chicopee Hills Animal Hospital. She was born in Hamilton and raised in Milton, Ontario. She began her undergraduate studies in Biology at Wilfrid Laurier University and was accepted into the Ontario Veterinary College in 2021 before completing her degree.

Dr. Tasky’s professional interests include emergency medicine and pet surgery. Before joining Chicopee Hills, she worked in an emergency veterinary clinic, where she developed a strong interest in urgent care. She has also performed routine spay and neuter surgeries and assisted with orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures, experiences that helped strengthen her interest in surgical care.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Tasky enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors. She shares her life with her partner, her energetic black Labrador Retriever, Echo, and her cat, Casey.

Jocelyn joined Chicopee Hills Animal Hospital in 2016 and worked as an assistant for three years while studying to become a veterinary technician. She graduated from the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus in 2019 and obtained her registered status right away.

Before entering veterinary medicine, Jocelyn completed a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 2010 and worked in insurance. After adopting her rescue cat, Claira, she realized animal care was her true passion. In 2024, Jocelyn earned the Cat Friendly Veterinary Professional Certificate from the American Association of Feline Practitioners, reflecting her commitment to feline-focused care.

In her spare time, Jocelyn enjoys being with her partner and their two rescue pets: Claira, a tabby cat, and Gushue, a Golden Retriever mix.

Maddy graduated from the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus in 2018 and earned her Registered Veterinary Technician status that same summer after completing the Veterinary Technician National Exam. Her time with Chicopee Hills began in 2017 as a veterinary assistant, and she was excited to return in 2019 as an RVT.

Her connection to animals began during childhood on her grandparents’ farm, where she was surrounded by many species and developed a deep appreciation for animal care. At home, Maddy shares her life with two dogs, Alexa and Lacey; her horse, Diamond; and four cats: Tom, Jerry, Lilah, and Lucy.

Outside work, she enjoys long hikes, baking, photography, and cottage time with family.

Kokoro moved to Canada in 2022 to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. She graduated in 2024 and soon after passed the VTNE, officially becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician.

Her love of animals began in childhood, when she often visited her mother’s friend who had several retrievers. Kokoro has a special interest in working with horses, dogs, and cats. At home, she has a toy poodle named Toto and a cat named Lala. She also spent time visiting a local stable to ride horses and hopes to have one of her own someday.

Kokoro is passionate about learning new skills and is excited to continue growing in the veterinary field.

Anne has been the receptionist and office manager at Chicopee Hills Animal Hospital since the clinic opened in 1997. She has worked in the veterinary field throughout her adult life and especially enjoys interacting with clients and their pets while sharing in the human-animal bond.

Anne’s own dogs are whippets, and she is enthusiastic about participating in sports with them, including flyball, agility, obedience, conformation showing, and lure coursing. Her love of whippets also led her to sew warm winter coats for her own dogs, which grew into a small business making coats for whippets across North America.

She also sews the dog bandanas on display at reception and looks forward to hearing about every client’s passion for their pets.

Michelle began working in the veterinary industry as a kennel attendant in 1987 and has been part of the field ever since. Over the years, she has worked as a veterinary nurse, practice manager, and receptionist. Reception is her favourite role because it allows her to build lasting relationships with clients and their pets.

Michelle loves all animals and has a special fondness for brachycephalic breeds. She shares her home with a Boston Terrier named Gordie and a Pug named Jilly Bean.

When she is not working, Michelle enjoys spending quality time with her two daughters.

Kathryn grew up with cats and dogs, especially Golden Retrievers, and has loved animals for as long as she can remember. She is the kind of person who happily spends a visit sitting on the floor with the pets. She is also an avid coffee drinker and usually has a book nearby.

Kathryn began fostering rescue dogs in 2014 while looking for a dog who would get along with her eldest cat, Arya. The second foster dog she met became her forever dog, Ellie. She also worked at an emergency clinic in Toronto, where she met one of her cats, Draco Malfoy. After moving to Kitchener in 2020, Kathryn eventually joined Chicopee Hills to work closer to home.

She hopes to become an RVT in the future.

Nicole has loved animals since childhood and grew up with fish, hamsters, a rabbit, a cat, a hedgehog, and a dog. In high school, she realized that working with animals was the right path for her. Her first animal-related job was on a turkey farm, where the joy of working around animals helped shape her career goals.

Nicole later worked at a clinic in Cambridge as a receptionist and assistant. She enjoys hands-on patient care, learning treatment skills, and assisting in surgeries. At Chicopee Hills, she is excited to keep growing in the field and hopes to return to school to become an RVT, with an interest in physiotherapy.

Outside the clinic, Nicole volunteers at a cat rescue in Kitchener and enjoys camping, hiking, video games, and spending time with her cats, Humphrey and Lily.
