About Chicopee Hills Animal Hospital

Started by Drs. Ellie Cowper and Dee Croft, Chicopee Hills Animal Hospital first opened its doors in 1997. After serving the Kitchener community for more than 25 years, they stepped back, and Dr. Shirley Chen took over the practice in 2023. Today, you will find Drs. Shari Wiseman, Kayla Tasky and Shirley Chen working regularly at the clinic.

Since the very beginning, the goals of the clinic have been very simple: to provide compassionate and science backed veterinary care to our patients and clients while providing our team members with a supportive and positive environment to work in.

We believe all pets deserve veterinary care, which is why we spend a lot of time educating ourselves and clients on Fear Free methods so all pets can feel comfortable visiting the vet. It is also important to us that pet owners feel comfortable with their pets’ care; we love talking to clients about treatment options, pros and cons of each decision, and what is the best fit for each family. We don’t judge anyone’s decision, as each family is on their own journey. Continuing education is important to us, we are constantly learning and bringing back updated information through conferences, online CE, discussions with specialists and veterinary forums.

We hope to carry on the Chicopee Hills legacy and continue to look after your fur babies for years to come.

What to Expect at Your Visit

We want every appointment to feel organized, safe, and as comfortable as possible for both pets and people. If your pet is nervous during travel, uncomfortable in the hospital, or has handling concerns, please call ahead so we can help reduce stress and plan appropriately.

Appointment Reminders

Clients are notified 48–72 hours before appointments, including any specific instructions related to the visit or our doctors’ recommendations.

Medical Records

Please provide any available medical records on your pet so we can support continuity of care.

Leashes and Carriers

For safety, pets should arrive leashed or in a carrier. These items may be available to borrow if needed.

Weight Checks

Your pet will be weighed at each visit, helping us maintain accurate medical records and monitor health changes over time.

Treats During Visits

Treats may be used to create a positive experience. If your pet has dietary restrictions, you are welcome to bring treats from home.

Test Results

If diagnostics are done, results are typically shared by phone or email within one week.

Handling Support

Our doctors have experience with pets of many temperaments. A registered veterinary technician or veterinary assistant can help hold your pet if requested.
